destination wedding in Jamaica - RIU Ocho Rios

Top 5 Wedding Venues in Jamaica

Planning a wedding in Jamaica? Dreaming of those white sands, turquoise waters, and One Love vibes? Whether you are looking to get married in Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Negril or one of the lovely destinations in between, we are glad you found your way here. Jamaica remains one of the most popular destination wedding locations for Canadians.

Are you new around here? We would love to quickly introduce ourselves. At Something Azul, we specialize in all-inclusive destination weddings. Something Azul Destination Weddings is award-winning and based right here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. For 10% off, click this link to read more about us and schedule a consultation.

Okay, let’s get started. Although our real “top five” list is always changing, here are our favourites right now:

RIU Ocho Rios

This resort is surprisingly budget-friendly and recently renovated. Their wedding packages are a bit bare (which is why you should hire a destination wedding planner), but they host some STUNNING venues. Chelsea was actually just there this past winter, and the service and wedding department helped execute an absolutely flawless wedding. If you are unfamiliar with the Ocho Rios area, it is close to a majority of the tourist attractions and excursions like the Dunn’s River Falls!

Secrets St. James

Secrets St. James and Secrets Wild Orchid are connecting resorts along the beaches of Montego Bay. Essentially, adults-only paradise! The Wild Orchid side has a majority of the restaurants and activities but Secrets St. James has the spa and Preferred Club Luxuries – there is a five-minute walk between them so you can change the vibe you want several times a day. One thing we don’t often talk about on the blog is the benefit of resorts that don’t require wristbands (like Secrets!) which is great for wedding photos!

Royalton Negril

Although the water in Jamaica is almost always breathtaking allover, nothing compares the miles of white sand beaches in Negril. If you are dreaming of white powder sand, Royalton Negril is a perfect place to rest your head and book your wedding. They are one of the few resorts in Jamaica that actually INCLUDE a private reception in all of their wedding packages. And us Canadians get great Royalton rates through one of our airline partners!

Moon Palace Jamaica

Moon Palace in Jamaica is located right downtown in Ocho Rios – you can basically walk right into downtown from outside the resort. Their beach is across the way from a small cruise port, so there are almost always cruise ships across the way from you which is kind of unique to watch. They also have both a garden gazebo and an overwater wedding gazebo – depending on your preference.

This resort, in particular, is too unique for us to explain in a single blog post. We HIGHLY recommend you schedule a consultation and we can talk about whether or not it is the right resort for you. Features include: resort credit for you and your guests to book excursions and wedding credit which depending on your group size, can be quite significant!

Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall

The Rose Hall Area is located between Montego Bay (where the Hip Street is and where most of us fly into – MBJ) and Ocho Rios (which we mentioned above is where all of the action is!). Pretty much a perfect location if you ask us! Hyatt Ziva is family friends and attached is it’s adult-only partner – Hyatt Zilara. Both are excellent for a luxurious wedding experience!

Are you planning a destination wedding in Jamaica?

We have toured dozens of resorts all over the island and we LOVE the destination and our resort partners. Although we tried to pull a few of our resort favourites here, it’s hard to choose a favourite without knowing what YOU are looking for on your wedding day. The best thing to do next would be to contact us so we can set up a complimentary consultation to discuss your destination wedding. From there, we can talk about what destination and resort would best match your wedding day vision. Don’t be shy – we are ready and waiting!
