How to make it easier for guests to attend your destination wedding

We can’t believe that it is already the end of August! Despite the craziness of 2020, it really is just flying by. As this year comes to an end, we can’t help but get excited about the amazing destination weddings we are planning in 2021 and 2022. Wondering how to make it EASIER for guests to attend your destination wedding? We have a few of our best tips below!

If you are new to our blog, allow us to quickly introduce ourselves. At Something Azul Destination Weddings, we are a boutique travel agency specializing in helping couples all over Canada plan their dream destination weddings in all-inclusive resort destinations like Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and more. We have even ventured to destinations like Thailand and Costa Rica because we always say “if you can dream it, we can plan it”. It’s what we love, and we are so grateful for all of our amazing couples who help us do just that.

Timeline of planning your destination wedding

More and more, we see couples wanting to plan their destination wedding 2+ years in advance. Although we can certainly see why you might want to do this, it doesn’t make it as easy for your guests as you might think. Lots of times, we hear from couples that they want to give their guests lots of time to save money and plan their vacation days. But what we hear from guests is that it is hard to plan so far ahead, they aren’t sure where they will be or if they can really plan that far in advance.

We typically recommend a sweet spot of 10-18 months in advance. This gives guests enough time to budget their holiday time, and we help guests with payment plans if they want to make budgeting a little bit easier. Any shorter and it can get a bit tight with holiday time for some industries and any longer you will have guests dragging their feet to commit. Trust us – we go through this every single time!

Creating a wedding website

Creating a website with your wedding details is a great way for guests to stay in touch. It might surprise you, but oftentimes guests call to book in for your wedding while they are on a quick break from work (and often, on the last possible day). Paper invitations are always stunning, but having something someone can access anywhere makes it a lot easier to book in when they have a spare moment.

Not sure what to include? Your travel agents booking information and any relevant deadlines is a good place to start! We also recommend including information about the destination, information about the resort, and depending on how familiar your group is with travelling: some frequently asked questions! We like to include travel details once finalized as well like the pricing for different room categories or flight times of your airline of choice.

Choose an all-inclusive resort

We love more unique destination wedding locations as much as the next person, but they don’t always make it easy for your guests. One thing we love about all-inclusive resort weddings is that guests know EXACTLY how much they will be paying for travel and don’t have to worry as much about spending money once they arrive. We love all inclusive resorts for so many reasons but the fact that it makes it so easy for guests to attend! Even the most nervous travelers can feel assured that everything is taken care of.
