Top 5 Wedding Venues in the Dominican Republic

Planning a wedding in the Dominican Republic? Dreaming of those white sands and turquoise waters? If you are looking to get married in Punta Cana, La Romana, or one of the many incredible destinations in the Dominican Republic, we are glad you found your way here. The Dominican Republic remains one of the most popular destination wedding locations for Canadians.

At Something Azul, we specialize in all-inclusive destination weddings. Something Azul Destination Weddings is award-winning and based right here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. For 10% off, click this link to read more about us and schedule a consultation.

Okay, let’s get started. Although our real “top five” list is always changing, here are our favourites:

Majestic Elegance

This resort is the “middle” of a complex of three but it brings such value for the price. It truly embodies “relaxed luxury” and the stretch of beach is just incredible. The wedding packages here are also surprisingly affordable and the wedding department is responsive. They have a VERY active Facebook group so even though we don’t believe couples should be taking destination wedding advice from bride-to-be’s in Facebook groups, there’s is actually worth joining.

Hilton La Romana

La Romana is quickly becoming even more popular than Punta Cana. This resort is definitely the “new kid on the block” of the list – it was formally a Dreams resort but went through extensive renovations to come back brand new. For couples who want something a bit different, definitely look in La Romana. The Hilton La Romana is adults only paradise. This resort was newly renovated and then closed in 2020 temporarily after COVID, but we can’t wait until it’s back.

Royalton CHIC Punta Cana

Some adult only resorts cater to couples who want a relaxing, romantic getaway. There’s definitely nothing wrong with that, but if you and your adults-only group want to focus on having fun and having a week long party to celebrate – the Royalton CHIC in Punta Cana is an absolute no brainer. From our first visit to the Dominican Republic (back when the resort was just called “CHIC”), this has been a long time favourite.

NOW Larimar

Compared to the other options, NOW Larimar is a bit more budget-friendly. This family friendly resort doesn’t necessarily feel luxury, although it does feel authentic and comfortable, with touches like free wifi, no wristbands, and 24 hour room service included with all room categories. NOW Larimar and NOW Garden recently combined under the one name “NOW Larimar” so keep in mind that garden view rooms are a bit of a walk from the beach. Although “not fancy”, we have heard time and time again that this resort just feels like home.

Sanctuary Cap Cana

Sanctuary Cap Cana has almost a European Colonial feel. It’s another adults only option with a breathtaking spa. Definitely designed for couples who want a relaxing, blissful, wedding vacation experience. If you fancy exploring, Sanctuary Cap Cana is nearby the town of Sanctuary, which has a collection of bars and bistros to explore. Although it doesn’t have the best beach in the Dominican Republic (it is set on a cliff), they do have a man made beach to soak up the sun and dip your toes in the crystal clear water. It’s worth the sacrifice.
